I recently finished reading Frostbound by Sharon Ashwood, Book 4 in her Dark Forgotten series. I absolutely loved it. She effortlessly balances a great story, lovable characters, and romance. Lore is to die for, even if he is a hellhound. He’s loyal, takes care of his pack, protects the weak, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s hot. What more could you ask for? And Talia is every bit his equal. You want them to be together from the very beginning…or at least I did. I’ve read several stories where the two love interests just suddenly fall for each other, almost like the author was in a hurry to get that part over with, and it felt fake, but in this book it happens naturally. I highly recommend the whole Dark Forgotten series to anyone looking for wonderfully written urban fantasy with some romance tossed in to heat things up a bit.

One of my recent book reads was by an author that’s new to me. I wish I had found her sooner, but now is better than never. ¬†Live Wire: Book 1 in the Blue Eyed Bomb series by Amber Lynn Natusch is about Sapphira, a young woman whose powers have gotten the better of her. Here’s the blurb from the book:

livewirefinal-ebooklg-1Sapphira is a ticking time bomb.

Two years ago, she lost control of the unstable energies within her and caused a horrific supernatural incident. Since then, she and her family have lived in constant fear of another – and her freedom seems only a distant memory.

In Huskers Grove, Iowa, a darkness looms. A great and faceless evil. An evil that wants Sapphira. Can she master her abilities to save the ones she loves or will she fall victim to the enemy that seeks to take what is rightfully hers?

I read a lot of urban fantasy, and this was something new and fresh. I was a little startled by the beginning of the book, how Sapphira deals with the horror of what she did in Little Church, Colorado years ago. But as the book progressed, I found I liked Sapphira’s character more and more, and I LOVE her bodyguard TS (Gabe isn’t bad either). The book is well written, and the characters are well developed. I rooted for Sapphira once I understood why she behaved the way she did in the beginning, all the way to the end, and I can’t wait for the second book Kill Switch to come out.

Now that I’ve found out about Miss Natusch, I can’t wait to read her other novels. If you’ve already read it, or read it based off what I’ve posted here, leave me a comment to let me know what you thought of it.
